Class 10 · Life Processes

Your legs ache after a sprint. Explain what your muscles did differently, and why it left you with less energy.

When I sprint my muscles make lactic acid and that is what makes them ache. The lactic acid builds up until I rest, and then it goes away again.

3 / 5Half right

The lactic acid is right. What is missing is why: your muscles ran short of oxygen, so they respired anaerobically — which releases far less energy. Name the oxygen and this is full marks.

Insights

  • Respiration products: solid. You name lactic acid without prompting.
  • The gap is the cause — you know what appears, not why it appears.
  • Three of ten answers lost marks for a missing final step.

  1. Prof. Albert

So why did your legs ache after the sprint?

  2. You

Because lactic acid built up in the muscle.

  3. Prof. Albert

Right. Now tell me what ran out first.

  4. You

    ऑक्सीजन। क्या आप हिंदी में समझा सकते हैं?

  5. Prof. Albert

    हाँ। ऑक्सीजन कम पड़ी, इसलिए श्वसन अवायवीय हुआ और ऊर्जा कम मिली।
